Happiness during Lockdown by Jana Coetzer

Lockdown Happiness by Jana Coetzer

Jana Coetzer has always believed in the healing power of the arts. As a trained actress from the Free State, she appreciates all forms of art and admires the artists who bring it to life. What started out as an aid to help with anxiety turned out to be something magical - opening a new, crazy world of strange characters, lines and colours. Thus, PoppieField was born. She has been on this venture for little over a year, but with a spot in an art exhibition, her own line of PoppieField apparel and over 1000 pieces,  she’s eager to see what the future holds. She loves the journey and is humbly grateful to see herself grow in this new direction. As Charles Bukowski said: “She’s mad, but she’s magic. There’s no lie in her fire.”

Maryke Nel is a Cape Town based hobbit who is at her happiest when home, in her pajamas. While lockdown might be scary, it’s not a completely unfamiliar environment. Her brand Miemiebird specializes in original, illustrated prints on fun and quirky t-shirts for adults, as well as commissioned portraits. In the real world she works in the film and television industry (for which she has to wear proper clothes).

Lockdown Happiness by Amber Palmer

Hi, my name is Amber. I started these little drawings as a side project to keep my sanity after moving to a new city and staying aways away; like driving in from the farm when your school is in town. Anyway. It has brought me much joy and took me to some surprising places; like driving in by yourself that first time you got your licence and taking the wrong turn and now you're on the N1! I'm grateful. Thank you.

Lockdown Happiness by Anke de Wet Benecke

For as long as I can remember I’ve been getting into trouble for plonking myself down wherever I am and doodling little things in the corners of books, all over napkins, paper tablecloths, people… really any surface I was allowed to ‘deface’.

I love all the oddly beautiful things around us and I appreciate a dark sense of humour, but when all is said and done, I would like the world to be a kinder and more lovely place. I left my job in corporate to try to achieve that to some extent, hopefully my doodles can inspire that for someone else.
